Prepping the Grill for the Summer!

Let’s see, you’re ready to grill some steaks, beer-can chicken, pork, or veggies on the grill. The only problem is that you haven’t sparked that up since the last Fall! It’s been idle; unfortunately, it’s been collecting dust, snow, and dirt in the backyard or patio. You smell summer coming and if you haven’t sparked it up for the Spring you have a pretty grungy grill calling to you.

Well, before you fire it up, and have high heat clean the innards, you should take some other things into account. Prepping the grill is a must, if you are serious about the grilling, or if you have a bunch of guests coming over to sample your cuisine. You don’t want to serve some terrible tasting barbecue to your family, friends, or co-workers do you? You definitely don’t want to be known as the worst griller in the neighborhood!

First, the grill itself, make sure you scour that sucker good. A non-abrasive cleaner or a dunking in some hot water and soap will do wonders. There are some great grill cleaning cleansers on the market specifically geared to this type of clean-up. Get it! What you need most of all is a elbow grease!!!

Once that grill is properly cleaned, you should apply either light cooking oil or some non-stick spray to make clean-up easier for the next time. The biggest key is like anything else, keep cleaning consistent. Don’t let the grime, and greasy gunk build up. It’s so much easier to keep a once clean grill maintained than one that is clearly too dirty.

If the grill is too dirty even for warm soap and water (which will take care of most grime), turn the grill on high for approximately 10 to 15 minutes and then scrub the grill with a good, stiff-bristled brush. The heat will loosen a lot of the sticky grease particles and allow you to get down to the metal. Let the grill cool, and do the soap and hot-water method.

After that, the grill should be ready for whatever you choose to cook on it. Happy grilling!
